Reflections

Looking back over the last several months, I can see how much I have learned not only about the library world and technology but also about myself. And I have been pleasantly surprised!

One thing I have discovered about myself is that "I Can"!!
Before 27Things, I felt myself staying far behind in the technology know-how department. I didn't have a clue as to what was out there and just how easy it is to learn it. Now, I at least know what the world is talking about and involved in and it feels great!

My favorite things about 27Things was Flickr. I discovered a photographer within me! I remember when we first started blogging, I described myself as someone who was okay at a few things but had yet to find that one thing that I was just mad about. Well thanks to KCLS, I've found it. And I can surely say, my life will never be the same again. :)

I also loved the way we all came together at the work place. In our little "cul de sac" down in CMS, I could feel the love! ;) When anyone had a question, or needed step-by-step help, there was someone always ready to share what they had learned.

There really isn't much I would change about the program. It really worked for me and I am so glad and grateful it was made available to us. I really do hope that these learning challenges will continue. I know it has really expanded my horizon!

If I could step back in time and advice myself as to whether I should participate. I would tell myself, "Do it, girl!!!"

My suggestion for a new Web 2.0 topic I'd like to learn about...keeping updated on all the new technology that is coming out daily! Or maybe even an in depth study of a few things we touched upon in this program.

Thank you so much, everyone that was involved with this program and to KCLS for making it possible. I can say without a shadow of a doubt, I'm a better person and employee because of it.

Podcasts

Podcasts are an amazing tool. Being able to not only read 27 things but to also hear interview clips added another depth to the learning experience, what could be called, '3-D learning'! :)
I was also amazed at how simple it is to record your own podcasts. In fact, I informed my brother about podcasts, so he could add podcasts with interviews, tips, etc. to his blog (Mark's Blog ) for small business owners. He was very interested in the idea and will look further into it.

I think he was pretty impressed with my " tech-knowledge." :) That of course, made me feel very smart. Thank you KCLS. :)

New Adventure Leads To Sentences

Chose my own adventure the other day, it lead me to true stories in onesentence.

But I Betcha!

I found Nia last year and am thrilled I was able to post this little diva in my blog! I am a huge fan!!

It's a Google World

Wow! I had no idea all of this existed! But I do now :)
I think I could use the online software. There have been times at home when our home computers crashed and we pretty much lost our documents and spreadsheets. (yes, I know I need to make back-ups).
Anyway, I sent Google docs and Zoho tours over to where my husband works. They just had an incident where they lost months of reports and it wasn't a very happy time in there little corner of Issaquah. I'm pretty sure this will help them. I think I prefer Zoho, I like the 'feel' and 'look' of it.

Google Labs...IT'S ALIVE!!!
*chuckle* couldn't resist :)
I read Snoodle's blog about the how the Brain from "Pinky and the Brain" fame, should team up with Google to take over the world. I love that cartoon! And I agree, maybe finally Brain will have a chance. :)

Library 2.0

About Library 2.0- all I know is this, KCLS27things Learning 2.0 has been such an awesome and amazing experience!

All Googlie

Well I believe I've gone and created a Google custom search engine. I'm still trying to figure out how it all came about, but I am thrilled that it did.

There are several (or a couple?) more weeks left to complete this Learning 2.0 challenge. I do have some catching up to do so I am grateful we do have this extra time to play catch-up.

So far, this has been quite enjoyable. It's been great reading others' blogs and getting a deeper glimpse of what they are all about, how they think, what they like, dislike. There have been times when just by reading others' blogs, I was able to learn something new from their perspectives.

Good job all!

Here's My South Park Me

I checked out mashups in Flickr-now that is one toy I will have fun with. I just need to find a picture I want to play with.

Wiki Wooooo!

Very interesting. This Wiki business I can see being used extensively in the library system. During our last department meeting it was mentioned putting our department manual on Wiki. That would be work very well because it would be easy to update, easy to access and if someone has a better way of doing a task...they can easily edit and add their tips and suggestions.

LibraryThing, LibraryThing, LibraryThing-Hey,Hey,Hey,Hey!!

OH WOW... I've just come from exploring and setting up an account in LibraryThing...
At first I was just going through the motions trying to learn another lesson for kcls27things. But as I kept exploring I found a whole other world opening up to me.

The books I cataloged are books that my son and I have read aloud to each other these past several months.

What do I especially like about LibraryThing? The BookSuggester and the UnSuggester - they are so much fun and helpful in finding 'like' books.

I have yet to tag my books, I'll probably spend some time doing that tomorrow but in the meantime, I'll keep exploring.

Technorati

Technology overload is more like it!
In the past two days I have gone over Tagging, Technorati and Folksonomies, and LibraryThing. I'm still trying to get it all straight in my head. I can see myself using Del.icio.us (especially with all the receipes I hunt for on the web) and LibraryThing looks like alot of fun. Tonight I will try and find several book titles on my shelves that I can list. Although books have been the very air I breathe, I don't know just how much I would use LibraryThing. I think Flickr has taken over my life and has now become my 'nueva pasión'. Because of Flickr, I do understand and appreciate tagging!

MySpace

Well, I finally got around to setting up a Myspace account. It was pretty easy to set up and all but I don't think I'll be hanging around there much. The ads alone drive me crazy!

But then I see my 15 year old daughter connecting and talking and socializing with friends and so I know reaching out to those who do like Myspace in Myspace...it's a good thing. :)

MySpace

I've read the articles relating to MySpace, Facebook and Second Life. All were very interesting and I agree with KCLS reaching people where they are at.

As of yet I do not have a MySpace account but I've seen enough of my daughters' to know that although I do need to set one up for 27 Things, I probably won't keep it.

My 20 year old daughter tells me, "anyone after the age of 25 has no business on MySpace...if they are, it's just too gross and they are trying too hard!"

My 15 year old lives and moves and has her being in MySpace...well almost.

Feeding The Need

My Bloglines account has been set up and I have subscribed to several RSS feeds. I think the only problem I am going to have is remembering to check Bloglines daily. Another habit to add to my daily routine. :)

It's easy to add the information you want or need and the time saved having them all in one place is terrific, especially with time being the hot commodity it is.

Seeing Pink

Seeing Pink

I think this is it!! I did it!
I ran all over my house with my daughter's camera and took pictures of all my favorite things. This is one of those "things."

Happy, happy, joy, joy!
My birthday is coming up soon...maybe I'll ask for my very own camera.

Scenario 1

Apparently I have figured out Scenario 1 in #5 Discover Flickr. Although I'm still trying to figure out how to include a copy of the image itself in my blog using Blogger's photo upload tool. Links were easy...oh well, I'll keep plugging away!

I just can't seem to get the image...

Trying To Remain Optimistic

Okay, I really love this guy although I didn't get him off Flickr. This is just a test run to see what I can do with pics in my blog. Now all I have to do is figure out how to do this off of Flickr.

Trying to figure it out

Okay,

I'm trying to figure out how to upload photos. I added a link to the photo but I would like to copy the image. It feels a bit scary-the whole asking permission first. Do we have to do that each time we find a picture we like and want to add to our blog?

And here I am again feeling a wee bit overwhelmed...

Press on girl, you can do this...

I found this photo and loved it!!

Oh wow!! I did it.
The thrill of it all!

This is fantastic. Now I will no longer feel like the old fogey I was settling into. My biggest dread was becoming to my kids what my parents were to me at their age...ancient and soooo out of it.

Talk about a sense of accomplishment. :)
